Bio for Dr. Joan King

Dr. Joan King was just seventeen when she stepped into life as a Dominican sister in her native New Orleans. Focused on becoming perfect, it wasn’t until her 11th year that she could see that she was actually becoming a “perfect façade” with nothing inside.

With this conviction, King transitioned from the convent to the University of New Orleans at age twenty-eight. Fascinated by science, King studied Chemistry and later received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience & Psychology from Tulane University. She thrived as a professor, a researcher and eventually a department chair of Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.
